foodtrucker – I completely understand your fears. I was terrified going into my surgery. I had the C5/C6/C7 fusion just like you are facing and was very relieved that it turned out to not be 1/10th as bad as I feared. In fact, the anticipation of the surgery was far worse than the procedure. I am one week out from surgery and am doing great. If you are interested, I am keeping a blog of my recovery: acdf-surgery (dot) com – look under Scott’s surgery. There is also a lot of other useful info.
I had this done only c3 through c7 taken right out and replaced with a four inch bone from a bone bank ( cadaver bone ) and then a four inch plate and screws. you will be fine. good luck take care and do what the doc says!
Dr. Corenman, thank you so much for putting up this video. I’m about to have this surgery on Thursday, and it was very informative and put me more at ease!

amaizing! doctors should be the richest people on this planet, it`s sad it`s not so
I’ve had this surgery done I’n 08 and amazingly enough was walking 12 hours later. The full recovery time is only 4 months for a complete fusion to take.
Mine took 6 due my great Insurance company wouldn’t pay to use my own bone graph. Instead they used a donors. . But amazing to have the spinel pressure gone after 14 years of dealing with the pain. I’d recommend this procedure to anyone….

Dr Corenman-I am to have this surgery in October. I found your video and narration very informative. I do feel that the more informed you are, the less intimidating all of this will be. Thank you for creating this video!
Thank you for posting this video, I am having this done on C6-C7, soon (waiting for it to be scheduled). It was very informative. Although I am still scared and my doctor explained everything to me, its nice to see it on video. So thanks again.

Thanks a lot!
Very nicely narrated Dr. Corenman. I used to produce surgical videos on a regular basis. They were very similar to this. Many of them were valve replacement procedures (200+) but a lot of orthopedic and back surgery(see the examples of tv programs on my youtube site). Now I have to have the surgery and it will be a fusion just like you’re showing but mine will be between c5/c6 and c6/c7. Thanks again.
This video helped me come to terms with having this surgery.
I had the “two level” version of it (C4/5 and C5/6) on 9/28/11. The nerve impingement pain and limb numbness are completely gone (10 days post-surgery). I’m going to have to be patient on the nerve impingement damage that occurred PRIOR TO THE SURGERY; I lost about 25% use of my left arm PRIOR to the surgery. The lesson learned is DON’T wait until you start losing motor control of your limbs to get help.
wow
thank u
OMG! I just had this done for 2nd time. C4/C5 IN O7′ and C5/C6 a week ago. No wonder my throat is so sore. LOL Thank those Doctors every chance you get. I can’t imagion how people lived with the amount of pain I was in before this.
What’s the symptoms of that problem? Do anyone knows anyhting about it?
